Our future projects include establishing sign language schools, building hostels and accommodation facilities for students, opening clinics, constructing water tanks, and manufacturing walking sticks and other materials to aid people with disabilities.

Our Story

In early 2022, a group of dedicated students from the University of Rwanda, led by Shumbusho Jean Damascene, made a significant impact on their community. Inspired by a deep sense of compassion, Shumbusho and his classmates—Tuyishime Theogene, Nshizirungu Yves, Umutoniwase Providence, Umutoni Flora, Nsengiyumva Innocent, Iryamukuru Vianney, and others—decided to take action to help those in need. On January 1st, they shared 100 meals with helpless and vulnerable children with disabilities at Kimisagara Groupe Scolaire. This heartfelt gesture marked the beginning of something extraordinary.

The event was a resounding success. During the lunch, a mother named Christine stood up and expressed her gratitude, saying, "You are still children with nothing in your pockets, but look at what you have done for us. As students receiving only $35 per month as a stipend scholarship, you have managed to organize and serve us with the little you have. This shows the richness of your hearts. Never give up, kids." At this time, the initiative was known as Impore Charity.

Moved by this experience, Shumbusho Jean Damascene resolved to continue this mission. He called on his friends—Tuyishime Theogene, Nshizirungu Yves, Umutoni Flora, and another political sciences student, Rwibutso Pierre Verlin—to officially establish an organization. Together, they sought a meaningful name that would embody their purpose. They chose NKURAGE FOR CHARITY ORGANIZATION. "NKURAGE" means "Let me Inherit You," reflecting their desire to create a lasting legacy through charity.

NKURAGE FOR CHARITY ORGANIZATION received its provisional certificate in May 2022 and was granted legal personality by the Rwanda Governance Board in May 2024. Since its inception, the organization has been serving the people of Tumba Sector, Huye District, in the Southern Province of Rwanda. Their initiatives address the 14 basic needs identified by Virginia Henderson, including food, toiletries, school materials, and building shelters for vulnerable individuals in collaboration with local citizens through Umuganda (community work). They also provide wheelchairs to those unable to walk, support pig rearing projects, and facilitate the creation of savings groups.
